Kia ora koutou,
Congratulations to all the students who participated in the Ironkids on Sunday. This was a great event and Hilltop School won $200 for the 2nd most proportion of students who entered the 7-10year old category. This money will go towards sports equipment for the school.

Maunga Ruapehu (Year 7 & 8) students are on Adventure Week this week. They are participating in a variety of activities across Taupō - Rock n Ropes, Aqua Park, golf, kayaking, paddle boarding, learning first aid skills, mountain biking and enjoying our local environment. Thanks again to our staff for organising these opportunities and to the parents who help. We wouldn’t be able to do these activities without your help.
Lockdown
The school reviewed its lockdown procedures with support from the police to ensure effective measures are in place for any potential high-risk situations.
Here's what you need to know:
Initiation of Lockdown: Lockdown will be initiated if there is a dangerous or threatening individual (or animal) on or near the school grounds. This decision may be prompted by a driective from the police/emergency services or the Principal/Senior Leadership Team.
Communication: Parents/caregivers will be notified through the HERO app - post, text message and also on Facebook. This will include when it has started and when it is lifted and where relevant, any updates.
Parent/Caregiver Role: During a lockdown, parents/caregivers are to stay away from the school premises and refrain from contacting the school to keep phone lines clear. Avoid contacting your children or their class teacher, as we need to focus on safety procedures and communication with the Principal/Senior Leadership Team.
Emergency Preparedness: Our school has emergency procedures in place, which are regularly practiced with both students and staff. Each classroom is equipped with emergency buckets containing food and toiletry supplies.
Communication Issues: We understand that not all parents/caregivers received text messages last week will update this feature on HERO. We acknowledge any delays in phone contact and will strive to notify you promptly when the lockdown is lifted, using the same mode of communication.
Last week the staff and students followed the school’s processes and the children were safe.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we prioritise the safety and well-being of our school community.
Have a great week.
