PRINCIPAL'S PERSPECTIVE

Kia ora koutou,
Athletics has been a focus over the past few weeks. Congratulations to all students who participated and to those who achieved 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the competition. There are many students representing Hilltop at the interschool competition today - we wish them all the best! Thank you to the teachers for organising the event and the parents who have volunteered to help.

The Mahi Peak overnight stay at Whakaipo Bay with the Year 8 students - who are completing their Mahi Peak Challenge this term -was a highlight for me last Thursday. It was exciting walking the W2K track in the dark and sit in solitude for half an hour. Thank you to Mr Wiltsher for his organisation of the event and to our teachers and parents who helped with the kayaking and with the overnight stay.
This Friday 17th is a Staff Only Day. This is a planned staff only day where we will delve further into Te Mātaiaho | the refreshed curriculum with a focus on Aotearoa Histories and how we can use a Te Tiriti honouring approach when implementing the Aotearoa NZ Histories Curriculum. We are looking forward to hosting the workshop in the school hall where staff from three local schools will also attend. The learning will be facilitated by Kārena Ngata - Kaiarahi Māori for the NZ Histories Teachers’ Association and Aotearoa Social Studies Educators’ Network.
Hilltop School Enrolment Zone
The Ministry of Education has amended the Hilltop School Zone, therefore our current zone will be reduced. This will take effect from January 2024. There are transitional arrangements for families of currently enrolled students whose addresses come out of zone as a result of the amendment of this Enrolment Scheme. Detailed information regarding the zone can be found here.
After 7 number of years, Ken Coombes is leaving the Hilltop Board, we would like to acknowledge his years of service and contribution to helping the school in this governance position. He has been a huge asset to the team and has put in many hours over the years.
We are looking forward to working with Steve Crandall who has been co-opted as a parent trustee, to fill this position on the board.
Have a great week!
Ngā mihi nui,
